Faith, Trust, Truth

It is sad to watch how many people find more comfort in putting their trust in the unknown rather than the known God who created us and loves us all. In today’s reading we see how Paul addresses this same thing with the Greeks in Berea in Acts 17:22-23, 22 Paul then stood up in the meeting of the Areopagus and said: “Men of Athens! I see that in every way you are very religious. 23 For as I walked around and looked carefully at your objects of worship, I even found an altar with this inscription: TO AN UNKNOWN GOD. Now what you worship as something unknown I am going to proclaim to you. Right after college I spent a summer in Thailand. While I was visiting Buddhist temples I saw this same inscription under a statue in the corner of a temple one day. I was overwhelmed with sadness to know there was so much uncertainty they felt the need to cover all their bases with this “god”. How thankful and comforting it is to know exactly who our God is.

2016 Day 121 – Galatians 1

Salvation, Truth

Our world is full of false teaching. Whether it’s acceptance of things clearly condemned by God, or the belief that everyone goes to heaven as long as they are “good”. However, Paul clearly rejects all of these and goes as far as condemning them eternally. In this first chapter of Galatians, Paul says this twice, the second being in Galatians 1:9, As we have already said, so now I say again: If anybody is preaching to you a gospel other than what you accepted, let him be eternally condemned! We know the truth. Let us not be persuaded or seduced into thinking the world has a better grasp of reality than our Father and Creator.

Believer, Disciples, Faith, Truth

Our legacy as believers started in the early days of the Church. I love reading the last sentence in Acts 11:26 where it says, The disciples were called Christians first at Antioch. This is where it all started. People can argue all they want about the genealogy of what happened, but they cannot argue about where we came from. We are Christians because we came from Christ. We should not be ashamed of that designation. But somehow being called a Christian is not acceptable any more and that is sad. I am proud to be called a believer, Christian, follower of Christ, or whatever you want to call me. Christ saved me; all to Him I owe.

Believer, Truth

Sharing the good news of Christ is not a planned action, it is something we should do whenever the opportunity arises. In Acts 8:35 Philip took the opportunity given to him and shared the Gospel with the Ethiopian, Then Philip began with that very passage of scripture and told him the good news about Jesus. We should not be waiting for the perfect opportunity. There is no right or wrong way to share. It should just be an extension of who God created us to be.

Holy Spirit, Truth

When the Holy Spirit came over the believers, it created confusion. The people questioned what had happened and what they should do. Peter stands up and says in Acts 2:36, “Therefore let all Israel be assured of this: God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Christ.” After Peter said this, there was no more confusion as to who Jesus really was. The apostles already knew the truth and many others believed, but this is where the Church and outward ministry of believers really started with the Holy Spirit and our ability to be led through Him.

Today is Good Friday, and one of the most painful days in the history of our faith. It all came down to this in Matthew 27:50 And when Jesus had cried out in a loud voice, he gave up his spirit. But just remember… Sunday is coming!

Faith, Truth

There is no question who Christ says He is. Jesus is clear in His message to His disciples and to us in throughout scripture. In John 14:6 He is very clear, Jesus answered, ” I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” While Christ’s words are clear, it is still up to us to have faith and believe. Jesus does not lack clarity when people don’t believe; they lack faith.

Truth

Jesus is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow. While people around us allow themselves to be influenced and changed but the distractions and misinformation of this world, we must remember that God does not change. In Matthew 24:35 Jesus said, Heaven and earth will pass, but my words will never pass away. People and their opinions will not last, but God’s truth is eternal.

Truth

Jesus came to this world to save it. He came to shed light in the darkness and expose true evil. In John 12:46 Jesus says, I have come into the world as a light, so that no one who believes in me should stay in the darkness. Where there is light, there cannot be darkness. The two cannot coexist. Those who believe good and evil are simply choices made with no harm, accomplish nothing but fool themselves.

Faith, Hope, Truth

One of my favorite passages in the Bible is when Jesus responds to the Pharisees when they tell Him to rebuke His followers for singing praises to the King in Luke 19:40, “I tell you,” he replied, “if they keep quiet, the stones will cry out.” Praise for the King of kings cannot be stopped. The enemy can try to keep it quiet by eliminating prayer from schools, and the like, but in the end the truth will always be made known. It is a promise made by our Savior and Lord Jesus Christ. Have hope and trust it to be true.
