2016 Day 102 – Acts 5

Faith, Trust, Wisdom

The religious leaders tried everything they could think of to stop the Apostles from preaching the Gospel. It was interesting to see a Pharisee provide some wisdom to the situation when he addressed the Sanhedrin in Acts 5:39, But if it is from God, you will not be able to stop these men; you will only find yourself fighting against God. People have tried to distort and stop the Gospel from spreading, but even after 2,000 years the light still finds a way through the dark. You can fight God’s will all you want, but in the end, God’s plan is perfect.

2016 Day 11 – Mark 2

Knowledge, Wisdom

It is difficult to understand that Jesus came for the salvation of everyone, including Jews and gentiles, but the message He brought was easier for the gentiles to accept than the Jews. I never really understood what Mark 2:22 meant until the last few years, And no one pours new wine into old wine skins. If he does, the wine bursts the skin, and both the wine and the wine skins will be ruined. No, he pours new wine into new wine skins. Jesus is talking about His ministry and His message, which are radically different than the Jews expected of the Messiah and broke all their expectations (old wine skin). The new message was something the gentiles were more easily able to digest and accept (new wine skin).

Trust, Truth, Wisdom

It is easy to look to other people for advice, but the Lord should be our one source of truth. Psalm 40:4 says, Blessed is the man who makes the Lord his trust, who does not look to the proud, to those who turn aside to false gods. Eventually people let us down, but the truth will always be found in Christ.

Obedience, Wisdom

Harsh words in Proverbs 26:11, As a dog returns to its vomit, so a fool repeats his folly. We must learn from our mistakes or we are destined to repeat them.

Wisdom

Arguing with a fool is pointless. Proverbs 23:9 says, Do not speak to a fool, for he will scorn the wisdom of your words. The more you try to reason with a fool, the more you are dragged into their foolishness. It is better to walk away and save your frustration.

Wisdom

I need to have Proverbs 21:23 on my mind at all times. He who guards his mouth and his tongue keeps himself from calamity. How many times have I made a bad situation worse by opening my mouth. Self control is the key to wisdom.

Truth, Wisdom

God has created each of us with the ability to see and hear truth. It is up to us to be willing to open up to the truth with our God-given abilities. Proverbs 12:12 says, Ears that hear and eyes that see – the Lord has made them both. Let us not allow ourselves to be blinded by the truth.

Faith, Trust, Wisdom

Few people like to ask for help and even fewer like correcting instruction from someone else. But Proverbs 19:20 says, Listen to advice and accept instruction, and in the end you will be wise. Only a fool rejects wise counsel from others. God places people in our lives to help guide us and move us in the right direction. Be humble, accept it, and be thankful for it.

Honor, Humility, Wisdom

When we think we can do it all alone, that is when we are closest to failure. Proverbs 18:12 say, Before his downfall a man’s heart is proud, but humility comes before honor. We cannot do it alone. We need the help of the Holy Spirit in our lives and the help of trusted friends to keep us accountable. When we humble ourselves to know we need help, this is when we find honor.

Blessings, Righteousness, Wisdom

At 47, I am facing my mortality more and more each day. It is hard to feel good about becoming older and slowly losing all the physical abilities I once had. But gray hair is something that should not be disgraced. Proverbs 16:31 says, Gray hair is a crown of splendor; it is attained by a righteous life. The Hebrews believed gray hair was the reflection of a long life and a sign of God’s blessing from a righteous life. We should all respect the elderly who have lived a life walking with God. They are an example to all of us.
