“Lord, to whom shall we go?” Those are the words of Simon Peter in verse 68 when Jesus asked the Twelve “You do not want to leave too, do you?” At this point in Jesus’ ministry people were beginning to realize that following Jesus was going to cost something. But the Twelve realized the cost had eternal implications for their lives. Simon Peter goes on to say, “You have the words of eternal life. We believe and know that you are the Holy One of God.” I get goose bumps reading those words! Here was Peter, a simple fisherman, who was standing in the presence of the Holy One of God and he knew he could never go back to the life he had before. This is how we should view our lives! He has changed us for eternity and we should never be able to look at our existence in the same way again, especially when we view our future and the amazing plans He has in store for us.
2012 Day 39 – John 6

My thoughts exactly, Dino.
Also, I love how much detail John gives in this story. He asks them what it would take to feed all the people. Phillip says that 200 pieces of silver wouldn’t even be enough. I looked it up, and 30 pieces of silver equaled 4 months wages for a normal laborer. So 200 pieces is well over 2 years salary. If you take the medien income in the US at around $40,000, basically $80,000 wouldn’t even be enough to feed these folks. The point here being that this problem was so large there was no way it could be accomplished by humans. I love how accessible Jesus makes this to his disciples and those of us now reading.
38 For I have come down from heaven, not to do My will, but the will of Him who sent Me
I know Jesus was God in human flesh, but the human part of Him really had to struggle while He was here. I wonder how many times He repeated these words back to Himself? I’m sure there were discouraging times when the disciples just didn’t get it or times when He was persecuted for who He was. I’m wonder if He constantly reminded Himself, I’m not here for me or for any other reason than to fulfill the purpose that God has for me? I’d love to have that kind of focus in my life.
