Proverbs 8:34 caught my attention today, Blessed is the man who listens to me, watching daily at my doors, waiting at my doorway. May we always be the ones who wait at the doorway of God for His instruction. The time we spend each day reading through His word is what is being talked about here. We are waiting at His doorstep for Him to open His words to us as we read. What a powerful picture this is to me.
I notice a few words continually coming up in these passages and those are “skillfully” and “expert” and their various counterparts. God specifically asked people to do the things that were their area of expertise or gifting. He didn’t ask someone who could sew to go build the altar. In fact, he ordered that people not be allowed to work on something that did not lie within their skill set. He’s given each of us specific gifts to use. Instead of thinking about or wishing for other gifts we don’t have, why don’t we just use the ones we have? Instead of asking people to do things that are not in their area of expertise, let’s plug people in where they can use their skills. Maybe not everyone should be in the church choir? Harsh? Maybe, but it’s truth. Encourage them to get involved in area of their skill set. Please do not ask me to work in the nursery one more time. If you want your child to be alive at the end of service, don’t let me back there. I can sing, I can greet, I can organize etc…Businesses put the right people on the right bus in the right seat. Why wouldn’t God? Why shouldn’t the church?
Excellent point! As always. Thanks Sarah!
