Sometimes we need to recognize where evil comes from and whether it is something that God has allowed to enter in our lives. Nehemiah 6:11-12 said, 11 But I said, “Should a man like me run away? Or should someone like me go into the temple to save his life? I will not go!” 12 I realized that God had not sent him, but that he had prophesied against me because Tobiah and Sanballat had hired him. Nehemiah recognized that the persecutors in his life were not authorized in his life by God and he was able to rebuke them. We must know that not all bad things in our lives are allowed by God and whether we know it or not, it is ok to ask God to remove bad things from happening to us. God does not expect us to meekly take all the bad things in our lives. He expects us to continuously ask for help and mercy.
Even though by rebuilding, they were doing what God had asked of them, they were still threatened by enemies. In fact, it was only when they started getting serious about making repairs and rebuilding that the enemies came out of the woodwork. They had to keep watch and protect themselves against attack. This same thing tends to happen with other areas of our lives. We see something in our lives that has been destroyed and broken down, and we begin the repair work. We begin healing. We begin to get our $#@! together :). Or we actually step out and do what we feel called to do. And what happens? The naysayers come. The negative thoughts come. Old systems of behavior rear their ugly heads. We have to be aware. We have to stand guard. But just like Nehemiah told the guards, God is with us. He will give us what we need and the ability to fight should it come to that.
