One of the hardest things about reading Job is reading the words of Job’s friends who assumed Job was suffering because he had committed a great sin. Neither they nor Job knew about Satan’s conversation with God in Job 1:6 – 2:8. It is easy to blame people for their own troubles, but Job’s story clearly shows that blame cannot always be attached to those who are struck by troubled times. We must always show compassion and help people who face trials and suffering without judging them. We all face rough times and it is always good to treat others the way we would want to be treated.
We see in the New Testament that Jesus had to confront the same way of thinking – troubles in your life must be a result of sin or God punishing you. But the first part of Job specifically lays out how devoted Job was to God in order to dispel that myth. While often times negative consequences come as a result of bad decisions, that is not always the case, and Dino, this is a good reminder to me to always show compassion and leave judgement at the door.
It’s a good reminder to me as well!
