Peace, Protection

There is peace in knowing we have an all-powerful God on our side. In Psalm 20:7 David says, Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God. While others find comfort in earthly means of protection, our God is all we need. Trust in Him and His perfect plan and you will find peace.

Glory, Grace, Holy Spirit, Mercy, Salvation

In today’s reading, it is interesting to see David’s request of God in Psalm 19:13, Keep your servant also from willful sin; may they not rule over me. Then will I be blameless, innocent of great transgression. We all sin, it is part of our nature, but willful sin require premeditation and a decision to sin. David asks God to keep him from willfully choosing sin. We must do the same. We will never be perfect in this lifetime, but we have the ability to control what we choose to do in order to glorify God. By God’s grace we are holy in His eyes because of the sacrifice of Jesus Christ regardless of the sin in our lives.

Empathy, Love

So many times we feel like David in the first part of Psalm 18:6 In my distress I called to the Lord; I cried to my God for help. We are at the end of our rope; all feels lost. But then we cry out to God, and in the second part of Psalm 18:6 we see God’s reaction, From his temple he heard my voice; my cry came before him, into his tears. When we hurt, God hurts for us. But we are never alone; He is right there by our side.

Faith, Hope, Protection, Trust

God is our ultimate protector. In Psalm 17:8 David says, Keep me the apple of your eye; hide me in the shadow of your wings. I always though the term “apple of my eye” was very strange when describing someone dear to us. But the apples (pupils) of our eyes are something we all protect vigorously. The same goes for us with God. We are the apple of His eye and he will protect us just as vigorously.

Peace, Protection

David knew God was always by his side. In Psalm 16:8 David says, I have set the Lord always before me. Because he is at my right hand, I will not be shaken. The world could be coming down around him with David standing alone, but he always walked as though God were standing right beside him through it all. Let us all live our lives knowing we are not alone. God loves us and never leaves us whether we choose to realize it or not.

Goodness, Righteousness

In Psalm 15, David asks God in the first verse “Lord, who may dwell in your sanctuary?” The rest of the Psalm goes through a list including Walking blamelessly, do what is righteous, Speak truth, do your neighbor no wrong, do not speak badly of your fellowman, despise what is vile, honor those who fear the Lord, keep your oath even when it hurts you, lend money without interest, and do not accept bribes. In the last part of the final verse in Psalm 15:5 David confirms, He who does these things will never be shaken.

Faith, Hope, Trust

Those who do not know God and who fail to have a real relationship with Him have no hope. In Psalm 14:1 David says, The fool says in his heart, “There is not God.” They are corrupt, their deeds are vile; there is no one who does good. Without God it is difficult to look at the struggles we all face and continue to have hope for our future. But through God we can all face the future knowing God is always by our sides.

Faith, Hope, Love, Trust

David begins this Psalm very much like many of us in times of trouble when we do not feel God’s presence. But David ends with Psalm 13:5 with trust and hope for deliverance from our loving God, But I trust in your unfailing love; my heart rejoices in your salvation. Do not wait until God delivers you before you praise Him. Use David as your example where He praised God knowing He would deliver him from his despair.
