Love, Relationship

In today’s reading we see the transition of Peter as a devout Jew who had followed The Law his entire life to someone who finally saw the heart of God when it comes to His entire creation. Acts 10:34-35, 34 Then Peter began to speak: “I now realize how true it is that God does not show favoritism 35 but accepts men from every nation who fear him and do what is right. God does not discriminate. He loves everyone equally and wants all to come into a personal relationship with Him. While we show favoritism, God is able to see the beauty in everyone equally and loves us all the same. The other beautiful thing about our relationship with God is this: We are unable to do anything to make Him love us any more or less. God’s love is perfect.

Love, Relationship

Today, the day after Easter celebration of our risen Lord, we read the final chapter in the Gospels of Jesus Christ. In this chapter we read about Jesus’ final appearance to His disciples. Over the course of these last 3 months we have witnessed many things through the eyes of the authors of these four gospels. One of the things I noticed about John’s account is the intimacy with which it was written. John is the self-proclaimed “one who Jesus loved”, and while this seems arrogant at times because Jesus loved all His disciples equally, John takes His relationship with Jesus very personally, which should be an example for us all. When we talk about a personal relationship with Jesus, we should really mean it to be personal. While it should be a relationship where we recognized Christ’s authority and how much he deserves our respect as our savior and God, we should also see Him in the personal and intimate way we would see someone we truly love and loves us.

Hope, Joy, Love, Peace, Salvation

Tomorrow is Easter! It is my favorite day of the year. When I think of all the suffering Jesus endured for me and then realize He conquered it all, there is nothing but joy and peace I feel for knowing I serve the God who stands over everything, including death. Though I sometimes feel like “doubting” Thomas, most of the time and especially on Easter I feel like the Thomas in John 20:28, Thomas said to him, “My Lord and my God!” Jesus is Lord over all and He is my God because He created me, loves me, died for me, and saved me. What else is there? What else could He possibly do to prove who He really is? I love Jesus… that is all.

Compassion, Love, Servant

Today we are reading the last chapter in the Gospel of Mark. In this final chapter Jesus rises from the dead and begins to appear before the people including His disciples. One of the most interesting verses is Mark 16:7 where the angel at the tomb tells the women, “But go, tell his disciples and Peter, ‘He is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him, just as he told you’ “ The interesting part is where he says “and Peter”. Despite Peter’s denial, Jesus did not disown him. Jesus still had great plans for Peter. For us, even when we fail, Jesus never stops loving us or wanting to include us in His plans. Jesus does not expect perfection, but a willing heart wanting to serve Him and others.

Love, Relationship

As we finally reach the resurrection of Jesus, one of my favorite sentences in the book of Matthew is the last one in verse 20, And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age. Jesus never stops loving us or walking with us. When we do not feel His presence it is because of our lack of focus on Him and not the other way around. Let us always remember our relationship with Christ. When we turn our focus to Jesus, we find that He is already focused on us. He never leaves us or forsakes us because He loves us more than we can possibly ever know.

Love, Relationship

I love reading the Gospel of John. There is a certain intimacy between John and Jesus that you do not sense in the other Gospels. John is self-described as “The one who Jesus loved”. In John 13:23-25 we see the interaction between Peter, John, and Jesus, 23 One of them, the disciple whom Jesus loved, was reclining next to him. 24 Simon Peter motioned to this disciple and said, “Ask him which one he means.” 25 Leaning back against Jesus, he asked him, “Lord, who is it?” While Peter was not one to be timid about speaking his mind, he knew how close John was to Jesus (almost like the favorite child), so he asked John to ask the hard question of Jesus. The relationship that John has with Jesus is an example of what I want with Jesus; someone who is not afraid to lean on Jesus and know He has all the answers and loves me wholeheartedly regardless.

Love, Servant

Serving God is more than just praying and reading His word, it is about being available to be used by Him to impact others and reflect the love of Christ. In Matthew 25:35-36 Jesus speaks about how it should be when we see Him at the end of our earthly existence,  35 For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, 36 I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me. We all hope these are the things Jesus will say when we see Him at the end of our life. When we look at others, we should see them as if they are Christ Himself and treat them accordingly. What are we doing today to make this a reality?

Love, Obedience

I think many believers spend too much time worrying about Christ’s second coming. While I am not saying it’s not important, what I am trying to say is that it is more important to focus on reflecting Christ’s love for others more than warning them about condemnation. In Mark 13:33 Jesus is clear about what He feels is important, Be on guard! Be alert! You do not know when that time will come. Notice the emphasis on being on guard and alert. Some people think this means we should use all our energy looking for signs, but I believe Jesus is talking about focusing on being obedient to what God has called us to do; Love God and love others.

Love

We worry about too many things. God wants us to focus on the things we can control and realize He can handle all of it. What is done is done and can never be changed. All we can do is move on. Luke 20:38, He is not the God of the dead, but of the living, for to him all are alive. Let us all focus on the things in front of us and stop looking back at what we have left behind.

Love, Servant

God loves to use His creation to testify of His existence and love. While we humans are at the top of the food-chain, it is still God’s choice to use us, though he does not require our testimony to express His love to others. In Luke 19:40 Jesus says, “I tell you,” he replied, “if they keep quiet, the stones will cry out.” We should feel privileged that God wants to use us because the reality is He does not need us. God loves us so much He wants us to be a part of the His story through our witness of Christ’s sacrifice changing us for eternity. Let us never forget the honor it is to be loved and used by God for His Kingdom.
