2012 Day 324 – Psalm 39, 73

Love, Obedience, Trust

There was so much wisdom in today’s reading in Psalm. The verses that stood out to me the most was Psalm 73:25-26, 25 Whom have I in heaven but you? And earth has nothing I desire besides you. 26 My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever. Who do we have to take care of us besides God? We love and trust friends and family around us, but in the end the only one who is guaranteed to be there for us is God. We really can not even rely on ourselves because we are imperfect. We can only trust God for perfect wisdom and guidance in our lives. We must trust in Him and know His plan is perfect.

Love, Obedience

No matter what our circumstances, God does not want us to be fearful. He gives us strength and courage to face any obstacle. Verse 7 says, For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love and of self‑discipline. What caught my attention this morning is the word love. God doesn’t want us to bully our opinions into the world, He wants us to be confident about what we believe and where we stand. Most importantly, He wants us to show love throughout everything that we do and say as His ambassadors to this world.

2012 Day 299 – Hebrews 4

Love, Relationship

We need to take a more thoughtful approach to how we come before God. Too often I will come to the Father either meekly with my head hung low or flippantly without much thought to my conversation with Him. In verse 16 it says, Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need. We need to come to God with reverence because He is our King, but we also need to come to Him with boldness and confidence because He is our friend and counselor. As we’ve discussed several times this year, it all comes down to our relationship with Him. If the only time I talk to God is when I need something, it is difficult to know His reaction to my request. However, once a relationship has been established, it is easier to know how Much He loves me and cares for me and wants what is best for me.

2012 Day 297 – Hebrews 2

Love, Salvation

There is a lot in this chapter that we could discuss, but ultimately I think it comes down to verse 18, Because he himself suffered when he was tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted. I don’t know about you, but this is very comforting to me. To know that Jesus, as a human, experienced the same temptations that I experience today helps me to know how much He empathizes with me. The other part that struck me was the last part of verse 9 where it says, …so that by the grace of God he might taste death for everyone. Jesus didn’t have to taste death for us. Up until this point He did not experience pain, suffering, or death, but He chose to do it out of love for us. That cannot go unnoticed.

Love, Protection

I have read verse 7 a hundred times, but I am always amazed that God puts it in front of me when I need it most, Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you. All I really need to know is God cares for me so much that He wants to know what is troubling me. He wants me to leave my troubles at His feet so He can take on the burden of carrying them for me. If He was willing to carry my sin, then everything else is simple for Him.

Grace, Love, Mercy

Paul starts the second paragraph of chapter 3 in verse 3 saying why we could not help ourselves, At one time we too were foolish, disobedient, deceived and enslaved by all kinds of passions and pleasures. We lived in malice and envy, being hated and hating one another. Those are some pretty strong words, but when I think about it, I really can’t argue with Paul in his description of me, for the most part. But then Paul goes on to say what God has done for us, 4 But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, 5 he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, 6 whom he poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Savior, 7 so that, having been justified by his grace, we might become heirs having the hope of eternal life. If we haven’t read it somewhere else before, Paul reminds us here of God’s amazing grace to us. Paul talks about God’s kindness, love, mercy, and generosity to us through His Son and Holy Spirit. Nothing we have is our own. It is all from God because of His grace.

Compassion, Love, Mercy

Psalm 145:8-9 stood out to me today, 8 The Lord is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and rich in love. 9 The Lord is good to all; he has compassion on all he has made. I am so thankful for a God who is slow to anger. He shows me compassion and gives me mercy regardless of whether I deserve it or not. Praise God for loving me.

Love, Protection

Psalm 55:22 stood out to me today, Cast your cares on the Lord and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous fall. The same God that sustains us each day wants us to trust in Him and cast all of our cares on Him. God is always there and sometimes my human self feels like He is waiting to see when I screw up. The truth is He is waiting there to pick me up and dust me off and help me to continue to move forward. Nothing I could ever do could ever surprise or shock God. He knows I am a weak human being who needs Him more than I need anything else in my life. It’s time I started acting as if God is big enough for all of my cares and that I start casting my burdens on Him so He can help me. I will never be strong enough, and He will never grow tired of caring for me.

Love, Protection

One of my favorite passages to claim when I feel like everything is against me is verses 8-9 We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed. There are many times when I feel like my world is coming crashing down, but God never leaves me alone. I may feel like it’s coming to a head, but God is always there to ultimately protect and love me through my struggles. We should never feel abandoned because no matter how bad it gets he is right there with us. It doesn’t mean we will never feel that way, it’s just a good reminder that we don’t need to.

Love

If you really think about it, God’s abilities will blow your mind. Psalm 139:17 says, How precious to me are your thoughts, O God! How vast is the sum of them! We can not even begin to fathom how much God thinks about us and loves us. We just need to be accepting that God is much more capable that we could ever imagine.
