2014 Day 258 – Mark 1

Freedom, Obedience

Today, as I was reading, it struck me how the demons were so aware of who Jesus was. In Mark 1:34 it says, and Jesus healed many who had various diseases. He also drove out many demons, but he would not let the demons speak because they knew who he was. The awareness of Jesus as the Son of God was very clear to the demons. More over, Jesus had authority over them to keep them quiet. While God has authority over all things, including demons, He allows us to have free will to choose to follow, listen, and obey Him. God has already chosen us, it is up to us to choose Him back.

2014 Day 257 – Justice & Mercy International – Amazon

Faith, Obedience, Reflection, Trust

This past summer I had the privilege of spending 8 days in the Amazon jungle with an organization called Justice & Mercy International. While I spent most of my summers in Brazil as a youth visiting family, this is the first time I visited Brazil in over 20 years and it was a life changing experience visiting and working with the forgotten people of the Amazon. One of the greatest privileges was bringing my oldest daughter with me and sharing this experience with her. These were some of the most beautiful, loving, and gracious people I had ever met and we are both looking forward to our next visit.

The below video shows an overview of the ministry.

2014 Day 256 – Matthew 3

Obedience, Trust

We all allow distractions to pull us away from God’s true purpose for our lives. John the Baptist is one of the most impressive characters in the Bible to me personally. Through his singularity of mind and discipline, he was able to fulfill God’s plan exactly as He intended. John the Baptist was not distracted and was always focused on God’s plan for his life, never wavering away, right up until his death. John knew his part and even questioned his worthiness to baptize Jesus. In Matthew 3:14 John tries to talk Jesus out of it, “I need to be baptized by you, and you come to me?”. Even so, in his humility, John consented to Jesus’ command.

This is a powerful example for us in a couple of ways: 1) We allow too many distractions that take our focus away from completely serving God and fulfilling His purpose in and through our lives. 2) Even though we feel unworthy to participate in God’s great purpose, He can always use us if we are simply willing to follow His lead.

Obedience, Praise

Actively seeking God and looking to do His will allows us to be in a place where God can bless us. Psalm 40:16 says, But may all who seek you rejoice and be glad in you; may those who love your salvation always say, “The Lord be exalted!” By always seeking God we exalt Him and place Him above all else. He deserves our praise, obedience, and respect.

Obedience

The book of Psalms starts with the essence of the choices we face in our lives; the life of the faithful versus the life of the faithless. Psalm 1:1 says, Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked or stand in the way of the sinner or sit in the seat of the mockers. We all have choices to make in how we live our lives. We choose to place ourselves in a position for success where God can bless us and lead us according to His perfect plan.

God’s plan is perfect. While it may be difficult to wait on God’s timing, He promises His timing will honor us. Psalm 37:34 says, Wait on the Lord and keep his way. He will exalt you to inherit the land; when the wicked are cut off, you will see it. In our obedience, God will change our circumstances when His timing is right. God is always faithful in delivering us through obediently following God’s plan for our lives.

Obedience, Trust

In today’s reading Psalm 138:8 stood out to me, The Lord will fulfill his purpose for me; your love, O Lord, endures forever – do not abandon the works of your hands. When we submit to God’s plans for our lives, we make the most of it. We must always remember God’s plan for us is perfect. When we try to compete against Him and His purpose for our lives, we do not experience all we were meant to be.

Freedom, Obedience, Salvation

When Christ came to save us from our sin, He did not come to abolish the law, but to fulfill it. Meaning; God’s commands are still important because they help direct our path, but we are no longer slaves who rely on the Law to save us. Psalm 119:165 says, Great peace have they who love your law, and nothing can make them stumble. By using God’s command to help direct our path, we are given clear and safe direction for how we are to exist in this life free from the bondage of sin’s control on our lives.

Obedience, Trust

When we walk through the woods at night it is easier to have a light at our feet to light our path and to keep us from tripping over objects in our way. The same goes for God’s word through the Bible; it leads us and shows us the path through the darkness in this world. Psalm 119:105 says, Your word is a light to my feet and light for my path. When we study God’s word He reveals the right path for us as we live out this life.

Freedom, Obedience

It is ironic when we realize how free we are when we are obedient to God. Contrary to what we believe, obeying God does not inhibit us, it frees us to be What God intended us to be. Psalm 119:45 says, I will walk about in freedom, for I have sought out your precepts. Obedience gives us freedom from guilt and gives God the ability to fulfill His plan for our lives.
