2014 Day 305 – Mark 6

Believer, Courage, Knowledge, Truth, Wisdom

We must never be ashamed of the Gospel of Christ. His sacrifice was too great and too personal to be ignored or denied by us. In Mark 6:38 Jesus says, If anyone is ashamed of me and my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, the Son of Man will be ashamed when he comes in his Father’s glory with the holy angels. Christ died for us. He sacrificed His place at the right side of the Father to save us from our sins. What is there to be ashamed of? Shame comes to the those who act like Pharisees and choose to interpret parts of God’s word for their own gain. Shame also comes to those who would rather believe their own opinions rather than believing what God has taught us through His word. Never be ashamed of the Gospel; be ashamed of how some “so called” believer twist the truth.

2014 Day 208 – Francis Chan: Are Your Beliefs Biblical

If we only had the Bible, and no one else’s opinions fed to us, would we still believe what we believe? We owe it to ourselves to dig into the scriptures and learn for ourselves what we need to know about God. Francis Chan’s video clip below may step on some people’s toes, but I think he brings up some very important points about our personal conclusions and beliefs. This is part of the reason why I write this blog everyday; it challenges me to dig into God’s word daily and hear directly from Him.

2014 Day 139 – Hebrews 2

Believer, Grace, Love, Mercy, Salvation

One of the hardest things about becoming a believer is accepting that we are not called to be holy before coming to Jesus for salvation. Jesus never asked us to do anything for our salvation. He simply asked us to accept. More importantly, because He became human for us and suffered, He knows what we experience and how much we struggle. Hebrews 2:18 says, Because he himself suffered when he was tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted. Jesus experienced everything here on earth that we experience. He is able to empathize, help, and love us through it all and he did it because He loves us.

2014 Day 15 – Acts 13

Believer, Gospel

Today, as we begin Acts 13, the story of the early church shifts from Peter to Paul as the central figure of the book. Paul completes three missionary journeys and ends up imprisoned in Jerusalem, then transported to Rome. The book of Acts will end abruptly showing the history of our faith is not yet complete. It is important to remember that we are part of the ongoing history of the church as God continues to write the story. We should all count it a privilege to be written into His story and be used for His purpose.

We need to take time to stop and think. There is so much more to life than just going through the motions. This 15 minute video helped me realize I don’t always look at life through the proper lens. Hope you enjoy it.

Believer, Obedience

I know most people have heard of the Duck Dynasty show. I love the show for several reasons. First, because it is entertaining. Second, because they are unafraid to share their lives as believers in a time when being called a “Christian” is not very popular. This short video shows how doing the right thing in the eyes of God is what is important.

2013 Day 179 – Luke 7-9, Psalm 94

Believer, Faith

In today’s reading, Jesus once again praises John the Baptist for fulfilling his purpose in life better than anyone. In John 7:28 Jesus says, “I tell you, among those born of women there is no one greater than John; yet the one who is least in the kingdom of God is greater than he.” I was confused by that last part of the verse, but the notes in my Bible explained that everyone who comes after John the Baptist is greater because they have a greater knowledge of who Christ was and His real purpose on earth. John was the last to function like an Old Testament prophet because he was the last to prepare the people for the coming of the Messiah. But even John did not fully understand Jesus Christ’s true purpose and and the actual function of the Messiah.

2013 Day 157 – Colossians 1-4, Psalm 77

Believer, Relationship, Wisdom

While I am glad we are going through the entire Bible this year, I am not thrilled with the speed we are going through some of these books. Colossians is one of the books we could spend weeks discussing, but unfortunately we are covering it in a single day. The book is one of the letters Paul wrote to the early church in Colossae.

The big thing that stood out to me today was in Colossians 1:28 where it says, “28 He is the one we proclaim, admonishing and teaching everyone with all wisdom, so that we may present everyone fully mature in Christ.” Paul’s main goal is to bring the believers in Colossae to a mature relationship with Christ. He did this knowing how much more their lives would be enriched. This should also be our goal, knowing how much more we can experience by investing our time in building a mature and fulfilled relationship with our savior.

If the attached video doesn’t make you feel small, then I’m not sure what would. In the immensity of our universe it gives me great comfort in knowing there is a powerful God who loves me and feels I am significant. I hope you enjoy it.

Believer, Jesus, Salvation

As I read today’s passages in Acts, I kept thinking to myself, “what has the modern church become, the Sadducees or the Pharisees?” I’m not thinking about their literal beliefs, but I’m comparing the quarreling we have internally as “Christians” when we get hung up on the mundane aspects of who we have become as a religion and forget to focus on Who made us as believers in the salvation we received through Jesus Christ. Every time we choose to focus on anything other than Jesus, we turn away from the reason Jesus came, died, and rose again in the first place. Let us not lose sight of our Savior and the freedom He has given to us. Not a freedom to sin, but a freedom to focus on Him and our true purpose in life which is to serve Him and draw others into relationship with Him.
