2015 Day 308 – Psalm 121

Faith, Protection, Trust

God is always watching over us and He is our protector. Psalm 121:7-8 says, 7 The Lord will keep you from all harm – he will watch over your life; 8 the Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore. In our modern lives we tend to believe in our own ability to protect ourselves. However, God is ultimately our source of protection no matter how much control we think we may have.

Eternity, Faith, Trust

When we read Psalm 23 we all tend to focus on the part where God is with us in the face of danger. But at the end of the Psalm David talks about God’s real promise to us in Psalm 23:6, Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever. Because of our relationship with God, He will always follow us even to the point of death, which is not the end, it is simply the beginning of “forever”.

Faith, Trust

When life is more than you think you can take, God is always there to help you through if you just ask for it. Psalm 119:114 says, You are my refuge and my shield; I have put my hope in your word. True hope and refuge from the things that hurt us can only come from God and His word. Fighting all our battles on our own is exhausting and many time futile. Trust in Him and He will never let you down.

2015 Day 302 – Psalm 119:1-44

Faith, Obedience, Relationship, Truth

Psalm 119 is the longest book of the Bible and it hold an immense amount of truths. Which is why we will break this chapter up over the next four days.

Relationship with God comes from spending time with Him in His word and in Prayer. And there is no better way to have God close to you that to have His words memorized. Psalm 119:11 says, I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you. Hidden (keeping) is a perfect way to keeping sin at bay. For this reason we should all be inspired to memorize scripture. But memorizing it alone will not deter sin if we do not put it to work in our lives. This is why we say God’s word is a “living” word. It should be a guide for every day of our lives.

Faith, Trust

May we never have too much that we forget our need for God in our lives and may we never have too little that we look for dishonest gains. Proverbs 30:8-9 says, 8 Keep falsehood and lies far from me; give me neither poverty nor riches, but give me only my daily bread. 9 Otherwise, I may have too much and disown you and say, ‘Who is the Lord?’ Or I may become poor and steal, and so dishonor the name of my God. How many of us are brave enough to pray these verses to God? Living in faith is hard, but this life is most rewarding when we fully trust in God for all we need.

Faith, Obedience

Riches are meaningless in the eyes of the Lord. Proverbs 28:6 says, Better a poor man whose walk is blameless than a rich man whose ways are perverse. God does not need our money. What He wants is our obedience and our willingness to be used by Him to impact the lives of others for eternity.

Faith, Strength, Trust

Those who are truly strong will show it when times are good and when they are bad as well. Proverbs 24:10 says, If you falter in times of trouble, how small is your strength! This isn’t a question, it is a statement and an indictment on our strength if we fall apart at the first sight of trouble. More importantly, we are not alone. God is always near us and allows us to draw strength from Him if we are simply aware and willing to do so.

Faith, Trust, Wisdom

Few people like to ask for help and even fewer like correcting instruction from someone else. But Proverbs 19:20 says, Listen to advice and accept instruction, and in the end you will be wise. Only a fool rejects wise counsel from others. God places people in our lives to help guide us and move us in the right direction. Be humble, accept it, and be thankful for it.

Faith, loyalty, Trust

True friends are the ones who love you no matter what. They stick by you regardless of the circumstances of your life or whether you can do anything for them in return. Proverbs 17:17 says, A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for adversity. There is no greater friend than a loyal one. When adversity strikes, that is when a true friend shows up. What kind of friend are you?

Faith, Obedience, Relationship, Trust

Fearing God is not a bad thing. It is respect and reverence for our creator and Father in Heaven. The fear of God is no different than the fear we had of our parents when we were little kids. While we did not always understand the rules, we followed them anyway because we knew they were meant to keep us safe. Proverbs 14:2 He whose walk is upright fears the Lord, but he whose ways are devious despises him. God wants obedience, but more importantly He wants us to be fulfilled in a way we can only find through walking with Him.
